Lewis Hamilton thinks Formula 1 should be more like America's Super Bowl

"A lot of beautiful girls should be here, there should be music and bands should perform," says British world champion, who slammed F1 rule changes.

Lewis Hamilton slammed F1 rule changes barely a day old and said the sport could learn from America’s Super Bowl, writes Byron Young in Barcelona. Comparing race aces to astronauts the world champion said: “A lot of beautiful girls should be here, there should be music, and bands should perform. “It should be a big spectacle just like the Super Bowl. Oh my God, that is such a super cool event. “F1 is a show. Fans are fascinated by the energy of the fight. “Sure, they would also like to do what we are doing, but that is of course, illusion. It is a bit like watching people in space: none of us will ever go to space.” The Mercedes ace said the qualifying format voted in by bosses in Geneva on Tuesday would not change much and called for drivers to be consulted more. “We need some more battles,” he said.” I don’t know what the answer is but whatever the decisions they have been making, have not been working for some time. “I don’t agree with the changes that have been made over many years. I think the drivers should be consulted more. “We have a feeling in the car and what could be made better. “I don’t feel the new qualifying format is going to change much.” Renault newboy Jolyon Palmer backed Hamilton’s stance saying shaking up the grid was unlikely to lead to better racing because overtaking was so easy. F1 ringmaster Bernie Ecclestone had been roundly critical of the sport but hailed the changes as a “wake up call”. Bosses voted in a quirky knockout system for qualifying ending in a two car shoot-out and fans get to vote for their Driver of the Day. Red Bull boss Christian Horner welcomed the change as a “first step” but wants cars to be far faster.
